Directions - Casting call pro

What cast do I need?
- Find a person that matches the script description. Whether that is a young girl or an old man
- You can't change the sex, age or ethnicity of your character just to make the casting process easier
- If you have to change the character make-up, then it must be for a very very good reason

Character profile
- Once you have broken down your script for casting requirements, create a character profile for each of the cast required

Casting - the rules
- Always be very clear in your communication that this is a student project
- Minimum offer to any actor working on your project: travel expenses, food and drink, and a copy of the finished project
- Every actor/presenter/contributor needs to sign a contributor consent form and ideally the Artist contract.

Finding your cast
- Good communication is the key to finding and keeping your cast
-Time, place, directions or pick-up point etc. Call sheet.
- Use suitable communication tool.
- Script, ready and complete. Properly formatted.
- Character profile
- Schedule locked (Dates and times)

Auditions
- If you have enough responses arrange to have auditions, or at least a meeting.
- Use Maidstone studios for what it's worth.
- Skype calls to lower the travel cost.
- Be professional, be friendly
- Get actors to read from the script and/or come with a pre-prepared monologue.
- Record it - if you have a number of people.

Engagement
- Making your choice should be based on:
- Their appropriateness for the role
- Their ability
- Their commitment to working on a student project
- Their flexibility (avoid casting someone who can only work on Wednesday evening from 6pm)
- Can you work for them
- Keep the actor fully informed of the project and keep them engaged if it's a while between seeing them and the shoot.
